ECF Conference: Reflecting Virtuality (24.-25.09.2025)

Disciplinary Perspectives, Methodological Approaches, and the Subjects of Scholarly Inquiry

The impact of virtuality on research, cultural and social practices is becoming increasingly significant. It is therefore important to critically reflect on how it shapes disciplinary perspectives, methodological approaches, and the subjects of scholarly enquiry. As virtual spaces and practices continue to permeate our cultural, social and political spheres, examining their implications becomes ever more urgent. Building on almost four years of research across the various projects of CRC 1567 »Virtual Lifeworlds«, the ECF conference »Reflecting Virtuality« (24–25 September 2025) will convene scholars from diverse fields. Participants will engage with a variety of activities and interventions exploring virtuality from different angles. The conference will culminate in a panel discussion reflecting on these encounters, as well as the broader impact of virtuality on research and cultural practice. This two-day conference aims to question the impact of virtuality, reflect on how it has already reshaped research and cultural practice, and consider how its influence will continue to evolve in the years to come.
